Common questions
What is the nisab for gold?
85 grams of pure (24k) gold — about 7.29 tola. Zakat is due only on gold at or above this weight, held for one full lunar year.
How is zakat calculated on 22k or 18k gold?
Convert to pure gold first: weight × karat ÷ 24. So 10 tola of 22k = 9.17 tola of pure gold. Then pay 2.5% of that pure-gold value. This calculator does the conversion for you.
Is zakat due on jewelry I wear daily?
Scholars differ: the Hanafi school requires zakat on worn jewelry as well, while others exempt jewelry that is worn regularly. If unsure, ask a local scholar you trust.
What if my gold is below the nisab?
No zakat is due on the gold itself. But remember zakat is calculated on your total zakatable wealth — gold + cash + savings + trade goods. Small amounts can combine to reach nisab.
