About accuracy: Gregorian → Hijri uses the official Umm al-Qura calendar. Hijri → Gregorian uses the arithmetical (tabular) Islamic calendar, which can differ from actual moon-sighting announcements by about a day — use the ±1 day buttons to match your country's official announcement (e.g. Ruet-e-Hilal Committee in Pakistan).

Common questions

What is today's Hijri date?

See the blue banner at the top of this page — it shows today in both calendars. Note that official moon-sighting announcements can shift it by a day.

Why does the Hijri date differ between websites?

The Islamic calendar follows the lunar cycle, and months officially begin with the sighted crescent moon. Calculators use either the Umm al-Qura (Saudi) calendar or the arithmetical calendar, which can differ by a day from each other and from local moon-sighting committees.

How do I convert my Gregorian birthday to Hijri?

Use the Gregorian → Hijri tab above and enter your birth date.

How many days are in a Hijri year?

354 days in a common year, 355 in a leap year — about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year, which is why Ramadan moves through the seasons.
